Founded in 2006, the Institute for the Study of the Judiciary, Politics & the Media (IJPM) is a first-of-its-kind academic institute devoted to the interdisciplinary study of issues at the intersection of law, politics, and the media. The institute sponsors lectures, conferences, and symposia designed to foster discussion and debate between scholars, policymakers, sitting judges, and working journalists.
Videos of many of events can be found on the lecture and event videos page. Other videos can be found directly linked in our events listing. The Institute teaches an undergraduate course designed to introduce students from across the university to law and legal institutions. It offers a cross-disciplinary graduate curricular program organized around a team-taught course on law, politics, and the media. There is also a book series and journal showcasing the latest scholarly research in areas of interest.
IJPM currently supports Faculty and Research Fellows from the College of Law, the Maxwell School, and the Newhouse School whose research and publications are relevant to the various intersections of law, politics, and the media.
