Favorite Things to Do Outside of Syracuse University College of Law
by Charles Murphy (1L)
It is important to remember when in law school to get out of the building and find time to relax. Getting your mind off of your coursework for a couple hours will make your more productive than you would have thought. There are many fun things to do in Syracuse, as well as the surround central New York region.
A couple of my favorite events to attend are the Syracuse basketball and football games. As a law student, you're able to purchase season tickets for both sports at a discounted price. There are also quite a few concerts and other events at the Carrier Dome throughout the school year. Many students spend free time at Destiny USA, the newly renovated mall. The mall is just a couple minutes from campus and features several new outlets, restaurants, and even an "amusement park for the mind," WonderWorks. It is also fun checking out the various festivals that take place in downtown Syracuse. A couple restaurants that are worth dining at are Pastabilities and Laci's Tapas Bar, both of which are located just a few minutes from the law school. Marshall street is on campus and consists of various restaurants, bars, and shops.
The city's close proximity to the Finger Lakes region makes for a great day or weekend trip. Skaneateles is a beautiful small town and lake located about 30 minutes from SU. There are awesome shops and restaurants on Main Street, which is right on the shoreline of the lake. Moreover, Seneca Lake is another Finger Lake about one hour from Syracuse. The Waterloo Outlets are located within minutes of the lake and feature many stores that aren't at Destiny USA. Seneca Lake features over 40 wineries and breweries that make for a relaxing trip away from school.
Whether staying in Syracuse or traveling to surrounding areas, there are plenty of fun activities that will allow you to take your mind off of school for a bit.
