A Law in London perspective:

Participants in the Law in London program are afforded a rich array of experiences.  To me, it often seemed that I was the beneficiary of a disproportionately large share.

By way of one example, during my London internship at a lunch with Peter Sparks, the senior partner of my host law firm, I was fortunate to have had an introduction to his friend Sir Edward Heath, former Prime Minister.

Many years later I attended a technology conference in Atlanta, Georgia.  Edward Heath was the keynote speaker, invited to discuss European economic topics.

During the cocktail hour, we reconnected, discussing among other things our mutual friend Peter Sparks.

After dinner, I retreated with several technology industry leaders to the rotating lounge high atop the conference venue.   Shortly after settling in to take in ever-changing views of Atlanta from our perch, I noticed Mr. Heath and his personal secretary alight from the elevator.  I was a familiar face, and they approached our group asking if they might join us.

Mr. Heath had diverse interests and talent and was an accomplished sailor, orchestral conductor and a great storyteller.  For more than three hours, we were captivated by his tales of encounters with past US presidents, Margaret Thatcher, and the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra.

A memorable and priceless experience, and all originating thanks to the opportunity to participate in the Law in London program!
