Professor French joined the College of Law faculty in 2000 and was named the associate dean of the H. Douglas Barclay Law Library at the college in 2006. His special interests include Canadian Law, legal research, library management and Eritrean Legal Bibliography. 

Professor French earned a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Oswego, a master of science degree from State University of New York at Geneseo and a master of arts degree from the University of Cincinnati. He earned a juris doctor from Northern Kentucky University. While in law school, Professor French was executive editor of the Northern Kentucky Law Review. He has held positions in either court or academic law libraries in Ohio, Kentucky, Maine and North Carolina. 

Before joining the faculty at Syracuse, Professor French was the Associate Director of the Law Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has served as a consultant for the United States Information Agency and the U.S. Agency for International Development in Africa.
