On March 14, 2016, on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the start of the Syrian Civil War, the US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to urge the United Nations Security Council to immediately establish a Syrian War Crimes Tribunal. During the House debate on H.Con.Res. 121, resolution sponsor Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) praised Professor of Practice David M. Crane and the Syrian Accountability Project (SAP) for their work gathering evidence that could be used against perpetrators of crimes against humanity and war crimes on all sides of the conflict.
