Semester in D.C. Externship Students Gain Multiple Perspectives on Military Legal Systems

Posted on Tuesday 2/9/2016

The Semester in D.C. Externship students participated in a seminar at Joint Base Andrews led by Col. Karen Mayberry, Appellate Military Judge of the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals.

Col. Mayberry gave the students a perspective on a number of military legal issues and systems, from her experiences at Guantanamo Bay as head of all defense teams for detainees to how the revised rules relating to military sexual charges have led to a revision of the military criminal system.

The students also hear from Devon Conroy L’15, who is currently in the Judge Advocate General office at Joint Base Andrews. He provided the students an overview of his responsibilities in the JAG and how networking while in Washington is important in shaping your career.
