Danette Edwards L'02

Danette Edwards obtained her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Franklin and Marshall College in 1999 and her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law in 2002.  While in law school, Ms. Edwards was a member of both the Moot Court Honor Society and the Syracuse Journal of Law and Technology, and was a semi-finalist in the Mackenzie Lewis Appellate Advocacy Competition.  During her 3L year, Ms. Edwards was part of the Moot Court Executive Board and received the Moot Court Executive Director's Award for outstanding service.  She is a member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Beta Kappa. 

Ms. Edwards serves as a senior counsel in the Division of Enforcement of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Washington, D.C.  As an SEC Enforcement lawyer, she investigates fraud and other securities violations, and recently, along with another attorney in the SEC’s trial unit, fully litigated a market manipulation case through trial.   

Before she joined the SEC, Ms. Edwards was an associate in the SEC & White Collar Defense Group at Venable LLP, where she represented clients in criminal defense and civil enforcement matters and litigated a range of commercial disputes.  Ms. Edwards was also committed to pro bono work while in private practice.  During her tenure at the firm, she was proud to receive Venable’s Benjamin R. Civiletti Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award for her efforts on a felony criminal case and follow-on administrative proceeding.
