Maya M. EcksteinMaya M. Eckstein obtained her Bachelor of Science from Kent State University in 1991 and her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law in 1995. As a law student, she was Associate Notes and Comments Editor for the Syracuse Law Review, inducted into the Order of the Coif, participated in the National Appellate Moot Court Competition, was a teaching assistant for Professor Rabin’s 1L research and writing class, and participated in the Human Rights Law Clinic. In 2001, Ms. Eckstein clerked for the Honorable Roger L. Gregory of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Ms. Eckstein is a partner in the Richmond, Virginia and Washington, D.C. offices of Hunton & Williams, where she is a member of the firm’s Litigation Team and Intellectual Property Practice Group. As a patent and intellectual property litigator, Ms. Eckstein advises companies and organizations on how to protect their valuable intellectual property rights. She represents both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement disputes and has significant experience planning, coordinating and executing national defense of complex litigation involving multiple defendants and jurisdictions. She has extensive trial experience and has obtained jury verdicts in the tens of millions of dollars. Ms. Eckstein represents clients from numerous industries, with an emphasis on the technology sector; she has litigated cases involving smartphone applications, hearing aid technology, cable television technology, document security technology, electronic payment technology and other technologies. Ms. Eckstein also regularly represents parents on a pro bono basis in international child abduction cases. 

Over the course of her legal career, Ms. Eckstein has received numerous honors from various organizations and publications, including Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, Virginia Super Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America (IP), Virginia Business Magazine, Inside Business, the American Inns of Court, and the Virginia State Bar.
