Eddie Baba L'03

Eddie BabaEDDIE BABA received his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 2003, where he was editor-in-chief of the Syracuse Journal of International Law & Commerce and associate editor of the Syracuse Law & Technology Journal (now known as the Syracuse Science & Technology Law Reporter). He received first place in the ASCAP Nathan Burkan Memorial Copyright Writing Competition for his article "From Conflict to Confluence: Protection of Databases Containing Genetic Information" (30 SYR. J. I'TL LAW & COMM. 121 (2003)). While in law school, Mr. Baba was a senior research associate for the Syracuse University Technology Transfer Research Center (now the Technology Commercialization Research Center), an interdisciplinary center for the study of commercial development of new technologies. Following his first year of law school, he worked at the Stanford University Office of Technology Licensing Office.

He has also received an M.S. in genetics from Stanford University in 2000. While there, his research focused on Epstein-Barr Virus-based episomal gene therapy vectors, as well as other nonviral-based gene therapy methods. Eddie coauthored several articles on gene therapy and has been published in journals such as Molecular Therapy and Nucleic Acids Research. He has also received a B.S. in Microbiology, with an emphasis in genetic engineering, and a B.A. in the History of Art and Architecture from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1997.

Mr. Baba is a partner in the San Francisco office of Bozicevic, Field, & Francis LLP. His practice focuses primarily on patent infringement and invalidity opinions; due diligence review; freedom-to-operate analysis; portfolio management; and patent prosecution in the medical device and biotechnology arena, including the areas of molecular biology, genomics, gene therapy, pharmaceuticals, and microbiology. Mr. Baba represents a wide range of clients, from universities and biotechnology start-up companies to larger, established companies.

Mr. Baba is currently the Treasurer of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association, and is admitted to the State Bar of California, the District of Columbia Bar and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
