Stewart AaronSTEWART D. AARON graduated from Cornell University with a BS in 1980 and received his JD from Syracuse University College of Law, summa cum laude, in 1983.

Mr. Aaron is currently a partner in the New York City office of Arnold & Porter LLP, where he also serves as the Administrative Partner. His practice focuses on commercial litigation with an emphasis on securities law matters. For more than 25 years, Mr. Aaron’s practice has involved the representation of clients in litigated matters in state and federal courts, and before regulatory bodies and self regulatory organizations.

Over the years, Mr. Aaron has also been involved in a variety of pro bono matters, and takes great pride in Arnold & Porter’s deep history in pro bono work, which includes the seminal Supreme Court case Gideon v. Wainwright, which established that state courts are required under the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution to provide counsel in criminal cases for defendants who are unable to afford their own attorneys. As an associate and a junior partner, he handled many prisoner civil rights cases out of the Pro Bono Panel of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, including several matters that went to trial. Since joining Arnold & Porter in 2005, he has supervised teams of associates in trials of prisoners’ civil rights cases from the Pro Bono Panel. In addition, he is a member of a three-lawyer panel that runs an annual training program at the Southern District of New York for attorneys seeking to take on cases from the Pro Bono Panel. In 2006, Mr. Aaron led a team of Arnold & Porter lawyers that provided assistance to the Commission on Safety and Abuse in America’s Prisons in the preparation of a comprehensive report regarding prison conditions. He currently supervises a team of associates in an immigration asylum case that is being coordinated with the organization Human Rights First.

Mr. Aaron is a frequent author and lecturer on legal topics, generally in the areas of securities, commercial, and prisoners' civil rights litigation. He was recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2009 for Litigation: Securities. Mr. Aaron has been among New York Super Lawyers for Business Litigation and Securities Litigation each year since 2006. He has been actively involved with , and is the current Vice President of, the New York County Lawyers’ Association (NYCLA), as well as the President of the NYCLA Foundation. He is also a member of the New York American Inn of Court.
