Professor Arterian received her bachelor’s degree in English, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Elmira College and her J.D. degree, with high distinction, from the University of Iowa. She was note and comment editor of the Iowa Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. Professor Arterian was associated with the New York law firm of Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood where she practiced corporate tax law. Before coming to Syracuse, Professor Arterian taught at Arizona State, the University of Houston and the University of Iowa law schools. She served as associate dean at Arizona State for ten years. Professor Arterian has written in the area of Title VII, particularly the dilemma of the employment of women in fetally toxic work environments.
