Professor Humphreys practiced with the Wall Street law firm of Donovan, Leisure, Newton and Irvine from 1961-63 when he joined the staff of Robert M. Morgenthau, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he prosecuted criminal cases from 1963-68. He was with the firm of Nottingham and Carroll in Syracuse from 1968 to 1970 when he joined the Syracuse University Law Faculty. He has taught at the law college as an Adjunct Professor since then in the fields of trial practice and evidence. He practiced law in Hamilton, New York from 1971 until 1984 at which time he became a “three hat” judge in Madison County (Family Court, Surrogate Court and County Court). He retired as a judge in January of 2001 and is now a Judicial Hearing Officer as well as a part time practicing attorney at the Legal Aid Society in Utica. He is a U.S. Navy veteran.
