What we have captured in these pages is but a snapshot of our alumni’s energy, exuberance, and optimism that I have experienced throughout this year, whether here in Dineen Hall or when I have traveled further afield to meet Orange lawyers in Atlanta, Austin, Buffalo, Dallas, Houston, New York City, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco, and in other communities.
No event encapsulates the Spirit of Orange better than our Law Alumni Weekend. Click here to see some of the joyful moments we captured across a truly spectacular three days. We not only enjoyed record attendance, the program—and our students—truly benefited from your participation and expertise.
I firmly believe that our alumni family’s enthusiasm is fueled by an ever-increasing engagement with the College and our students. In fact, alumni have become an integral part of our key events—such as Law Alumni Weekend and Orientation—helping to create rich and diverse programming, joining panels, presenting to students, networking, and lecturing. We simply can’t make these events the successes they are without your help.
But your involvement doesn’t stop with these signature events. As the pages of this magazine attest, alumni support their College in myriad ways year-round. You hire our graduates as externs, clerks, and staff; you encourage philanthropy through friendly intra-mural competitions; you support your favorite programs with gifts, and in many more ways as illustrated in this magazine.
What does all this dedication to your alma mater lead to? Spectacular results. Your philanthropy underpins our success. Last year, our alumni—along with friends, faculty, staff, and students—pledged or gave nearly $5.5 million to the College.
Thanks to your contributions, we have hired six new faculty members, enrolled a diverse and academically accomplished class of J.D. and LL.M. students, posted excellent advocacy competition results, launched our own national advocacy competition, became a Top Ten law school for funded legal research, hosted international symposia and conferences, and grown our online law degree program–JDinteractive–gaining accolades along the way.
Believe me, other law schools are taking note of our innovations and our results.
In the coming year, please carry your enthusiasm and energy into an exciting new campaign for Syracuse University. Forever Orange: The Campaign for Syracuse University aims to further advance academic excellence, provide an unsurpassed student experience, and create unique learning opportunities that leverage the University’s distinctive strengths and impact our world in extraordinary ways.
As a part of Forever Orange, the College will raise $38 million to grow our endowment and current use funds for scholarships, faculty leadership and innovation, and the Law Annual Fund. Click here to find out more about the campaign and to hear from campaign co-chairs Melanie Gray L’81 and Marnin Michaels L’96.
Thanks to your generous support, the College will continue to be known for its unique blend of innovation and tradition—now and into the future. I am grateful for all you do for the College of Law and look forward to seeing you in 2020.
Very truly yours,
Craig M. Boise
Dean and Professor of Law
