In 1996 the Telecommunications Act promised consumers a new world of communications products and services at lower prices by reducing the amount of government regulation in the communications industry, allowing competition to drive down prices and ignite innovation. A decade later a new wave of innovation is washing over the communications and entertainment industries and once again attorneys, consumer groups, elected federal and state officials are working to determine what role law and government should play in the growth and development of the technology sector.

Join the CLPS Spring Symposium to hear from leading representatives of the communications industry, law and government as they engage in a lively discussion on what should be done to ensure choice and competition for consumers in an ever changing environment.

Symposium Objectives

  • Introduce the topic of communications law and policy to students who are exploring areas of interest to pursue
  • Educate students already interested in the field and provide an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about issues currently being debated on Capitol Hill and at the Federal Communications Commission
  • Provide networking opportunities
  • Strengthen CLPS presence among SUCOL, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and the School of Information Studies to create an inter-disciplinary program on communications law and policy that utilizes resources and expertise from each school.

  • Who Should Attend

Changes in the communications industry impact everyone from attorneys to academics, public communicators to consumers. Everyone with an interest in law or communication is invited to attend.
