Joint Degree in Law & Social Work

The J.D./M.S.W. is a collaboration between the School of Social Work of the College of Human Services and Health Professions and the College of Law. It allows students to obtain a law degree and a Masters degree in social work in three years.

Students accepted into the College of Law complete their first year of law school and then apply to the joint degree program through the School of Social Work in the early spring of their first year of law school. Students must be in good academic standing in the law school to be considered for the joint degree program. Upon acceptance into the joint degree program, students may begin taking any combination of law and graduate social work classes, including those offered by both the College of Law and the School of Social Work in the summer, as well as courses offered by other colleges at Syracuse University such as the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, School of Education, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
