Legal English Summer Session

The College of Law, in partnership with Syracuse University’s English Language Institute, offers a “Legal English” summer session to students seeking to further develop their English-language skills before enrolling in the LL.M. Program.

The Legal English course is designed to provide a foundation in legal terminology in various areas (listening, speaking, reading, legal research, and writing) for non-native speakers of English who intend to earn an LL.M. degree in the United States. The course provides 25 instructional hours per week.

The Legal English course is conveniently offered during six weeks over the summer, before the start of the LL.M. Program. The College of Law strongly encourages all of its LL.M. students who are non-native English speakers to enroll in the Legal English summer session in order to enhance their immersion into the classroom setting and to better facilitate contributions to legal discourse within the College of Law community.  Students who are conditionally admitted into the LL.M. program may be required to successfully complete the Legal English course before enrolling into the LL.M. program.
