Borrowing Privileges & Policies
Circulating materials may be charged out by all members of the Syracuse University community who have valid Syracuse University Identification Cards. Alumni of the Syracuse University College of Law and members of the local Bar Associations are also eligible for borrowing privileges. To apply for a Courtesy Card, please see our Alumni & Bar Services
The normal loan period for circulating materials for all students is 28 days. Materials may be renewed unless recalled. Faculty are granted extended loan privileges, and may make arrangements to borrow non-circulating items. For details on faculty loans, please consult the Faculty Services Section
of our website.
The overdue fine on circulating materials is 50 cents a day per item, starting with the first day overdue. Students should be aware that failure to pay overdue fines may result in a hold being placed on subsequent registration, release of transcripts, or graduation verification.
Any circulating item may be recalled for use by another patron. The revised due date for recalled items is indicated on the recall notice. The overdue fine for recalls is $2.00 per day per item, up to $30.00. Any patron who does not respond to a recall notice will have his or her borrowing privileges suspended by the automated Circulation system until the recalled item has been returned to the library.
