Eric Eichenholtz L'02

Eric EichenholtzERIC EICHENHOLTZ is a 2002 graduate of Syracuse University College of Law. Since his graduation, Mr. Eichenholtz has worked in the Labor and Employment Division of the New York City Law Department, which represents the City of New York in litigation and provides legal counsel to the City and its agencies.

While at the College of Law, Mr. Eichenholtz was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, serving as Executive Director for the 2001-2002 academic year. He was also member of the intercollegiate Trademark Moot Court team that won Best Oralist honors in 2002, a quarter finalist in the Grossman Trial Competition and a semi-finalist in the Mackenzie Hughes Appellate Advocacy competition. Mr. Eichenholtz also served as a member of the College of Law Judicial Board and was active in the Jewish Law Students Association.

Mr. Eichenholtz worked as a Summer Honors Intern in the General Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department in the summer following his second year. Upon graduation, he joined the Law Department as Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Labor and Employment Law Division where he immediately assumed responsibility for his own case load, representing the City of New York and its agencies in employment-related litigation. In September 2006, he was promoted to Senior Counsel, handling complex and high profile cases. Mr. Eichenholtz also supervises a team of seven attorneys that handle employment matters in New York state and federal courts.

Mr. Eichenholtz has handled a wide variety of cases, including the representation of New York City Council Speaker, Christine Quinn, in a highly publicized lawsuit that alleging improper termination of a City Council aide. He served as lead counsel in a series of cases challenging the New York City Department of Education’s Teaching Fellows program (a program designed to attract teachers to schools). He also successfully litigated a First Amendment retaliation case involving the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Probation.

In addition to his litigation responsibilities, Mr. Eichenholtz was named the Co-Chairperson of the Law Department’s Electronic Evidence Committee in 2007 and presented at Practicing Law Institute’s 2007 lecture on Municipal Law. He has also presented CLE lectures on Professionalism, Brief Writing, Discovery and Electronic Discovery for the New York City Law Department. Mr. Eichenholtz has been a guest lecturer at Adelphi University, where he presented legal research to graduate students taking classes on education and the law.

Mr. Eichenholtz is a member of the New York State Bar Association, and annually volunteers as a judge for American Bar Association’s National Appellate Competition as well as various college moot court competitions. He also serves as a volunteer small claims arbitrator for the New York County Civil Court.
