Professional & Career Development
Lawyers today, regardless of their practice, require a wide array of skills to be successful. These skills range from networking and business development to basic professionalism. The Office of Professional & Career Development at Syracuse University College of Law provides a variety of programming and networking opportunities to assist students with developing these critical attributes. Working one-on-one with students, the Office of Professional & Career Development assists them with crafting job search strategies which focus on their interests and capitalize on their strengths.
A legal education from Syracuse University College of Law opens the doors to a broad spectrum of interesting and challenging careers. Today, as in the past, our graduates are having a profound impact on their communities. To introduce students to the diverse career paths available to them, the Office of Professional & Career Development is honored to highlight members of the alumni community at various stages in their careers whose work encompasses an array of practice areas.
ADAM J. KATZ L'04

Adam J. Katz obtained his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland in 2001, and received both his Master of Public Administration from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law in 2004. While in law school, he was a member of the Syracuse Law Review and served a term as class president.
Mr. Katz is an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York, where he prosecutes civil enforcement actions against those who commit fraud against the federal government, and seeks relief against those who violate environmental, health or safety laws. He previously served as a trial attorney for four years with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he represented the United States in trial and appellate courts in cases arising under the federal pollution-control laws. Before he joined the Department of Justice in 2008, Adam worked as an associate for the law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP, where he focused his practice on regulatory litigation and energy law. Prior to that, he served as a law clerk to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in the Staff Attorney's Office.
Mr. Katz has been a member of the Syracuse University Law Alumni Association (SULAA) Board since 2006, and held several positions on the Executive Committee. Adam was recently elected as President of SULAA and will serve in this role through 2014.
